About

Oh, hey, didn’t see you there. (lol) Welcome to happymindsets.com. My name is James Leatherman, and I am currently a high school math teacher. I started my adult life as a civil engineer, but I hated working in an office. So, I went back to school and earned a Master’s in Teaching (math and physics). After a few years teaching, I decided that I was crazy and I went back to school to try to earn a Doctorate in Educational Leadership, which I’m currently ABD (and on hiatus) from. What that means is that I’ve done all the coursework for the doctorate and the only thing standing between me and the hood is that pesky little dissertation.

I also have two kids that I love very much and they are my world. I believe strong family ties are one of the keys to happiness, so I try to devote a lot of time and attention towards spending time with family whenever I can.

I started this website because one of my passions is personal growth, psychology, philosophy, and science. I’ve spent the past ten years reading lots and lots of books on personal development and psychology. Some of my favorite people in the biz are Alan Watts, Tony Robbins, and Brene Brown. I also love Carl Jung and Sigmund Freud and have read many of their works.

The purpose of this website is to pursue happiness. Finding happiness can be a tricky endeavor, especially in the crazy world we live in today. I believe happiness is a mindset, which is a set of beliefs, values, and a sense of identity. We can’t be happy all the time, but we can have mindsets that bring us back to happiness frequently enough that the end result is an overall happy life. I don’t advocate avoiding negative emotions. Just the opposite, in fact. We turn and face them head on, and we learn to process them efficiently. Most forms of unhappiness stem from getting stuck in a particularly nasty mindset.

I’m glad you found my page, and I hope you find what you are looking for. Thanks for stopping by!
